TIMELINE

March 2023:  New Single Terminal and Parking at KCI opens

Q4 2022:
Final art installation begins

July 2022:  Six months from artwork installation. See the artwork progress and glimpse into the artists’ studios and art-making processes HERE.

2022:
All selected artists in-process of finalizing revisions, approvals, and fabricating artwork.

Q4 2021:
Selected artists paperwork completed and begin process of proposal revisions for approvals, as needed.

September 2021:  19 KC-Area Artists Announced for Kansas City International Airport New Terminal Public Art. View renderings of the artworks here.

July-August 2021:  Rollout 1 and 2 art contracts are in the City Council approval phase. Concourses A and B wall art RFP judging is currently underway.

June 2021:  All Calls for Artists are now CLOSED. Reference information available HERE.  Finalists announced for the next art locations:  Check-in hall ceramics, Connector, Garage stairwells, Arrival roadway underpass. Read the news release HERE.

April 2021:  Concourses A and B, wall-based artwork RFP. Details posted April 19, 2021. Proposals were due June 18, 2021.

March 2021:  Finalists announced for the first four art locations:  Check-in Hall Ceiling, Node A Inspired by Fountain, Node B, Escalator to Baggage Claim. Read the news release HERE. See preliminary proposal images HERE.

Winter 2021:  “RFQ Rollout 2”:  Large-scale ceramics, connector experiential artworks, garage stairwell installations and arrival roadway lighting. RFQs open December 18, 2020 to February 13, 2021. Semifinalists judging is in progress.

January 2021 Artist Information Sessions:  Public video conferences were held to provide information about the KCMO One Percent for Art process, RFQs overview, terminal specs overview and answer questions regarding the next four Art at KCI Call for Artists locations. You can watch the recorded sessions from January 6 AND January 9, 2021.

Fall 2021:  “RFQ Rollout 1”:  Check-In Hall, Retail Node A, Node B and Escalator to Baggage Claim RFQs open October 13, 2020 to December 6, 2020 (CLOSED).

October 2020 Artist Information Sessions:  Public video conferences were held to provide information about the KCMO One Percent for Art process, RFQs overview, terminal specs overview and answer questions regarding the first four Art at KCI Call for Artists locations. April 2020: “Arts & Culture at KCI” Public Presentation and Community Input:
The public was invited to watch, learn and participate in the “Arts & Culture at KCI” online presentation and survey. It was one way to get informed, comment and discuss the public’s vision for art at the new single terminal and parking garage at KCI. The online presentation is still viewable by clicking here. By viewing the presentation, the public can learn about the biggest “One Percent for Art” project in KCMO history. The public also had the opportunity to submit comments and feedback via an online survey link at the end of the presentation. CLOSED April 20, 2020.

February 2020:  Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for Project Advisory Artists (CLOSED):
Chosen artists will work closely with the design/build team, KCAD, Art Consultants, KCMO Arts Administrator and Stakeholders to assist with research, brainstorming, community feedback and development of recommendations for Art at  KCI locations, type and budgets. This role is an advisory one and selected artists will not be eligible to apply for One Percent for Art projects at KCI. For eligibility and requirements visit our online contracting system. In the AD CATEGORY pull-down menu, go to “Art RFQ/Ps,” then download the attachment for “Project No. 62180498 -RFQ/P – New Single Terminal Airport – Consulting Individuals with Artistic Background.” Submissions are due by 5:00pm CST February 21, 2020.
