Production Pile Work Begins, Setting the Foundation for the New Terminal

Production pile work got underway in earnest the week of October 14 on the foundation of the New Terminal at Kansas City International Airport. We invited the local news media up for a photo opportunity of the work.

More than 2,000 Auger Pressure Grouted piles will form the Terminal’s foundation system, with even more footings planned for the parking garage and new roadways.

Test pile work, which began a few weeks ago, was used to help determine the depth, diameter and number of piles required to support the New Terminal.

Deep foundation work on the New Terminal Project is being performed by Kansas City area-based firm Berkel, one of the largest deep foundations contractors in the United States. Berkel’s portfolio includes work on the Pentagon. They are subcontractors of Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate. Track the project on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter under @BuildKCI with #BuildKCI hash tag.
